About
Katya is an artist and maker currently working in East London. She creates playful poetic pieces influenced by surrealism and symbolism. Her jewellery is an extension of her art practice and is inspired by medieval pilgrim badges and other symbolic tokens. She explores the spontaneity and unpredictability of materials whilst navigating the idea of the subconscious and the otherworldly.
The process she uses to make her silver jewellery is called the 'lost wax' method, and she uses recycled silver to create these pieces. The lost wax method adds a rough handmade look to the pieces and makers marks are often left in to add a certain quality.
One aim of her brand is to make beautiful pieces accessible at multiple price ranges. The pewter range makes her work accessible at a lower price point, and is created in a very unique process and is still made from a good quality metal that is easily polished unlike other 'metals' used especially in high street shops that are only made to last a few months. The pewter she uses is lead free and is cast in soapstone, which is a safer modern alternative to how pilgrim badges were made in the 1500s.
